This photo was taken while chartering a guest during my fishing guide days in Nootka Sound, British Columbia Canada.  The actual shot was at Yuquot (Friendly Cove) beach just a few hundred yards west of the cairn that marks the signing of the "Nootka Convention" in 1794.  The time of day was mid morning and the colors of the sky and water complimented by the surf foam as I rounded the infamous Yuquot rock was more than I could take so I grabbed my Sony DSC H9 and took a quick handheld shot.  I probably should have lined the fishing rod up to the left or right side of the frame but the rod itself suddenly tripped from the downrigger and we hooked into a nice 33 lb Chinook salmon so chaos occurred almost immediately.

This area is known for its beautiful scenery and just a head about 30 yards would take you to a sandy/pebble beach with the old church in the trees just above it.  This is also the end (or beginning) of the Nootka Trail which takes about 5 days to complete and is becoming very popular with more hikers using it every year.  The trail itself follows along the southwest side of Nootka Island and runs from Yuquot (Friendly Cove) to Ferrer Point up by Esperanza Inlet.  Along the way you will see various sandy beaches where surfers will show off their skills in the big waves that pound the beaches on any given day.

I have yet to hike this trail but have flow by helicopter to Calvin Creek beach where the surfers play to do some beachcombing after the report of a few containers being lost at sea a few miles off shore during one of the west coast's extreme winter storms.  That was a very cool experience and the beach itself was beautiful.  Calvin Falls is about 50 yards from the ocean and can be seen from the beach.  We walked about 1 km both ways down the beach looking for valuable or interesting items.  We found a lot of running shoes and other items but nothing of any value and it seemed all the running shoes were only of one foot right or left it didnt matter.  Reminded me of opening the dryer to only find one of what used to be a pair of socks and wondering what happened to the other one.  But I digress...
